Motor Show in Messe Essen 2011
The 44th Essen Motor Show. With 18 halls, 105.000 square meters, 500 stands and a massive number of around 350.000 visitors, the Essen Motor Show is one of the biggest shows in Germany.
Mostly ‘tuning’ stuff for cars, like exhaust systems, lights, spoilers, wheels, boom-boom stereo’s, seats and the funniest en weirdest parts and accessories can be seen, heard and bought. For motorcycle fans there’s a lot less, just one hall with custom bikes, with mostly Streetfighters in the oh so typical German ‘Ass high up in the Air’ styling. But there were also nice custom bikes, beautiful classic bikes and some other cool bikes that grabbed our attention. This year’s Rat’s Hole best of show winner, Wikked Steel, was there too.

Roaming through the eighteen halls, with fat Germans eating their Bratwurst and drinking large beers everywhere around us, it’s a long walk to see everything. Tools, parts and accessories for every imaginable car, stereo systems, classic cars, modern cars, cars of the future, well, there’s just too many cars compared to the bikes. Shame. The theme at the Essen Motor Show this year was 100 years of the Monte Carlo Rally, so many rally / race cars were on display. There was the ‘Show Mile’, the Motorsport Arena, and more and more ‘Tuning’. Was / is it worth going to the Essen motor Show for a bike enthusiast? Yes, it’s not spectacular compared to other bike shows, but the whole atmosphere is good fun. And if you like Hot Rods, American Custom Cars and the whole scene around it, it sure is worth going there!
